Coloured pencils is not really my specialty. Work is for one of my drawing classes... and it's taking forever but I'm a perfectionist and want this to really turn out well though I'm not sure whether I'm heading in the right direction with this. Highly experimental. I really look forward to having this completed and out of the way....it's a work in a progress and will post a complete drawing once it's done.

Hands and feet

An often neglected part of figure drawing, hands and feet tend to be ignored when considering the mass conception of the human figure. Having said that, I had a tendency to not give that much attention to it, but have worked towards building up this weakness over the past year. Here's basic construction of hands and feet. Was for a class project but it was good motivation to demonstrate what I've learnt

Delicious fruit

Painting fruit is always a fun still life subject, there's always a delicacy to the surface and texture of each fruit you paint. The banana was admittedly pretty boring as it had simple surface planes and colour variation is obviously limited. I think the next still life study might be a few onions, always a challenging one to take on.

Another landscape painting. This was highly experimental in which I was testing various brushes in Photoshop to get an overall feel for each one of them as well as learning some techniques in doing so. The clouds need some further highlights, so therefore I view this as somewhat unfinished, but in essence, quite happy with the result.

First proper digital painting using the mouse. Although I have a Wacom now, this was done prior to purchasing one. Funny thing is, it was this painting that convinced me to actually buy one due to potential health issues that may arise from constant clicking of the mouse. but moreso, the RSI pain from the millions of times I clicked on the mouse to produce this painting.

Can't get enough of Michelangelo. I love studying his drawings, he was so fluid with this rhythm, proportion, form etc, it's fantastic.

Scorpion King

Well, here's my latest invention. I view it as such because it's the derivation of thoughtful creative work. To create it is to become its master, and once you are the master of it, you are in total control. The main source of inspiration comes from an artist called Riven Phoenix, a very famous man who pioneered the Structure of Man DVD series where it radically improved my drawing skills. He had an awesome drawing called the Scorpion King, and this is where I drew my inspiration from. Using all the knowledge gained from his teachings, I was able to craft this drawing straight from the mind without using any direct source of reference, and for that I feel very happy to achieve this. I thought of three words, crab, man and scorpion and what you see as a result is the above. It took a number of quick/rough sketches to lay down the initial ideas as the rendering was the easy part (ironically). There are some things that I'm not too happy about with the finished drawing, but I suppose I can use it as a way to reflect on my mistakes and carry that forward with me. I guess the biggest dream is to perhaps see this guy come alive from concept to real life in say a comic book, movie or computer game.

This creation really was inspired by the Finaly Fantasy-esque artwork. Ever since playing the game on the PS2 many years ago, I was hooked to the storyline, the game art, the music and the gameplay itself, and since then always view it with a great source for inspiration in inventing new things from scratch. The staff needs finishing, and certainly perhaps more shading is required to bring the character a bit more to life.

Dark Angel

The creative thinking came from Magic the Gathering card called Serra Angel. Why do angels always seem to be depicted in a white, angelic, peace seeking figure? I wanted to change that and created a darker, evil, opposite view of the cynical thoughts we have about it. Kind of like the Yin and Yang philosophy, we can call it the other half.

Ok, so here's my most recent drawing. It might seem somewhat peculiar at first but I can explain for you. I was watching a documentary on BBC called Bible Mysteries and an interesting story was covered.... David and Goliath. The famous story which epitomises the battle between the underdog and the champion. The warrior from the Israelites versus the champion from the Philistines. Now we all know David wins the battle with his trusty sling, but I thought it would be interesting to capture this moment of gesture... one that expresses his intent to hurt and kill, but also seek glory for his people. It's interesting to note that once I found a pose to work with + the expressions and hand gestures, I've discovered that Berlini's renaisance sculpture of David also captures a strikingly similar moment, but of course.. the sculpture itself is a true masterpiece, one that will live through the ages.
